The module aims to introduce the trainees to the broader context of the practices for “Personal Data Protection”. This notion also labelled as “the right of privacy” traces its legacy back to the XIX century when the “right to be let alone” was introduced by the Americans Louis Brandeis and his co-author Samuel Warren in their article for the 1890s edition of the Harvard Law Review[1]. The end of the second millennium was marked by revolutionary developments in information technologies, parallel to the emergency of new security threats. The need to find balance between privacy and security became more impending.
